The Black Mass of Brother Springer is a tough book to classify or even recommend. A biting satire of organized religion, a send up of civil rights through the white gaze, a testimony on the consequences of fragile masculinity. There’s a lot going on here for such a short book. The book’s writer Charles Willeford is one of my favorites. That in a nutshell is the story of The Black Mass of Brother www.doorway.rus Willeford loves to take on sacred cows. And in this book, he takes on the most sacred of all cows, religion itself. He also skewers segregationists and racists in general by comically revealing their warped sense of reality with their own words. Or minor rubbing is noticeable on the extremities. Pages or parts of the cover may be missing. FAIR (f) Very heavily read and possibly soiled, but still complete and readable. Torn covers or pages are likely, as is a rolled spine.
